Convinced by the raptors’ argument, you decide on the Eyrievision format. They give you a crash course. Each bird type will send up a group of performers who will sing a song written for the party, accompanied by an associated dance routine. At the end, a complex voting process determines a winner. Soon a large stage made from interwoven twigs is set up, and the contestants start performing. While the event itself is fascinating, it turns out the real action is backstage as you witness all the rehearsals, arguments, and accusations of collusion and cheating. A scandal erupts when the passerine contestant is revealed to be lip-syncing, while a lizard (a relatively close cousin of birds) sang backstage. You get so lost in the chaos you can’t even remember who wins, but the morning after you hear it was the best Eyrievision yet.
